The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered the Ghanaian embassy in Beijing, China to tighten its processes of issuing visa to Chinese.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, said his outfit in addition has issued new directives to the Ghana Immigration Service to screen Chinese nationals arriving in Ghana through a third country.

Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, the minister also said it had realized majority of Chinese came through Togo and other neighboring countries thus making it easy for them to gain access to the country.
“Basically we have asked our missions in Beijing, who are the ones issuing visas, to vet and screen applications rigorously before granting our visas," he said.

"We have also taken a look at our policy of visa on arrival because a lot of the Chinese who come into the country come through a third country which qualifies them to receive visas upon arrival.”

Hon. Mumuni further mentioned that his outfit was ensuring that any loopholes were corrected.

He added: “We are also asking our Ghanaian comrades and fellow citizens to be very weary and not collaborate with foreigners coming into the country to engage in this galamsey activity that is ravaging our environment and raising national concern.”
