| Man Poses As Ghana Armed Forces Captain |

A 35-year-old man has been arrested by the Agona Swedru Police for parading himself as a Captain in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and stationed at the Air-Borne Force (ABF), Tamale.
The suspect, who later admitted that he was not a soldier, had earlier mentioned three different names – Captain Ametepey, Capt. Maxwell Ametepey and Capt. Homenu Amedeka Maxwell – as his to the police.
He also claimed he was discharged from the GAF for excessive drinking three years ago.
According to the Swedru Divisional Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Kennedy Edusei, the suspect had earlier gone to the offices of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), demanding to see the commander.
He said when he was informed that the BNI commander was not available, the suspect requested to see the Deputy BNI Commander but he was informed that the deputy too was not in the office.
Mr Edusei said the suspect, however, managed to secure the mobile phone number of the deputy after which he sent a text message to the Deputy BNI Commander to respond to his calls.
According to Mr Edusei, the suspect had indicated to the BNI that he (suspect) had been detailed from Accra to investigate the Agona West Municipal Assembly about an issue.
He said in an interaction with another BNI official, that official became suspicious of the suspect.
He said officials of the BNI later traced the suspect to a hotel where he was lodging and alerted the police.
Mr Edusei said the suspect only admitted he was not a soldier after he got to know that the police were contacting the Military High Command to authenticate his claims that he was a military officer who had been sent to investigate the Agona West Municipal Assembly.
The suspect, he said, was yesterday remanded in police custody to re-appear before the Swedru Circuit Court on September 26, 2012. |
