Thousands of people are rushing to the Independence Square in Accra to secure seats in the stands for the burial service of President John Evans Atta Mills who died on July 24 at the 37 Military Hospital.
Wearing either red or black clothes with red bad around their necks, they started trooping to the Square at dawn to bid goodbye to the man who won the presidency after his third attempt and governed for only three years six months.
Mr Raphael Boadu, a civil servant, told the GNA “President Mills governed for a short time but he has made a huge impact. Future presidents will be judged by his tall yardstick of humility and honesty.”
The crowd moving towards the Independence Square is huge as the day has been declared a national holiday to enable Ghanaians to mourn the President who, despite visible health challenges, served his country well.
Security are visible along all roads leading to the Independence Square and are professionally directing people.
