The Chiefs and people of Tanyigbe, the hometown of Koku Anyidoho, spokesperson for the late President John Evans Atta Mills, have held a gargantuan durbar to mourn the death of the President.

The durbar was also used to console the closest aide of the former President, Koku Anyidoho, for his loss. All the four communities in the traditional area, relatives living abroad and other surrounding communities took part in the event.

Also present was the Nordu Development Association, a union of some traditional areas within the Ho Municipality forged for development.

Prior to the durbar, a procession was held through the principal streets of the traditional locality which brought the entire area to a standstill.

Almost every house in the area was empty as virtually every able individual including children and the elderly partook in the procession and durbar. Many of these individuals at various instances broke down in tears.

The entire town was clad in red and black with the streets and durbar grounds turned into a sea of red with black patches.

The procession was led by the chiefs, clergy, Brigadier General Anyidoho, Father of Koku Anyidoho, the Ho MCE, Isaac Kodobisah, the Ho Central NDC aspirant, Benjamin Kpodo and executives of the Ho Central NDC.

At the Durbar, Zikpuitor Kwasi Adiko Mensah who spoke for the Paramount Chief, Togbe Korsi Adiko V, noted that the people of Tanyigbe considered the former President as their son and a close friend because he made their son, Koku Anyidoho, his spokesperson.

Apart from that, he brought them some development projects including a road network which would forever remind them of him. He stressed that “Mills’ death is a great loss for us.” Zikpuitor Adiko Mensah urged Ghanaians to allow President Mills’ death to knit them together. He also prayed for the spirit of tolerance and continued peace and stability before, during and after the elections.

He consoled Brigadier General Anyidoho and Koku Anyidoho and the bereaved family, particularly, the former First Lady, Naadu Mills and urged them to be strong.

In a sermon, Rev. Amanu of the EP Church in the area noted that although his demise was painful, Ghanaians ought to be united. He noted that the tributes showed that the former President lived a good life which ought to be emulated by all. He urged Ghanaians to strive to do more in order to give a good account of themselves when the Lord called them to rest.

The NDC parliamentary aspirant for Ho Central, Benjamin Kpodo, a native of the area, noted that late President Mills was a living testimony of a selfless and development oriented leader.

He called on all to support the new President, John Mahama to make late President Mills happy in his grave. The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Kodobisah, noted that he was overwhelmed by the multitude that had graced the occasion and urged them to keep the spirit up for community development programmes.

Other speakers included the Ho Central NDC Chairman, Hanock Bansah, and a representative of the Nordu Development Association. Brigadier General Anyidoho, who was sorrowful throughout the durbar, made no remark.
