The Dutch national at the centre of an alleged paedophile case, Mr Arthur Paes said at the weekend that media publications about him are deliberate falsehoods to incriminate and tarnish his reputation. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Paes alleged that all the malicious publications were as a result of bad blood between him and his accusers Jan Wubbling and wife; Eunice Boateng, after he took over his hotel which he had entrusted in their care whilst in Holland. ‘I took over Africa Royal Beach Hotel at Nungua formerly Dutch hotel when I was informed that Wubbling had changed the ownership to his name at the Registrar’s General’s Department and this collapsed a long standing friendship between us” claims Mr Paes. Mr Paes said he settled in Ghana as an investor upon invitation by one Togbe Bansah, a Ghanaian Mechanical Engineer based in Germany, recounting that it was during his periodic visits to the country that led him to purchase a three-star hotel in Accra. “While in Ghana, I found Wubbling who is also a Dutch national, in the country and we became friends after, which I entrusted the management of the hotel in his care.” According to Paes the friendship between them was excellent, until the change in ownership of the hotel. He said he sacked Wubbling in order to exert his authority as the bona fide owner of the property, and it took him a tough time at the Registrar-General’s Department to reclaim the hotel’s ownership into his name. Mr Paes alleged that his accusation as a paedophile was a smear campaign adding: “Wubbling is doing this due to shame and bitterness and the deliberate false media publications to dent my image is the cause the vengeance on me.” He said he has been accused of indulging in fake gold business, and now smeared with defilement. He described himself as a decent businessman who has the country at heart with a vision to use Ghana as a gateway to extend his global businesses to other African countries. Mr Paes said he has big investment in Ghana, and has bigger investment plans to embark on and would therefore not do anything to break the laws of his host country. He said the police have been investigating the allegations of defilement since 2010, and therefore wondered why those accusing could not wait for an official outcome of the investigations. “I’m a married man with four children and a grandchild, and will never engage in a sickening sexual behaviour such as abusing children. “I found it strange that the simple and universally acceptable principle of justice, which demands that an accused person must be heard, has been loudly ignored by some press houses.
