The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has ordered the interdiction of two officials of the Asante-Akim South Scheme for alleged embezzlement of GH˘25,700.00 belonging to the scheme.

They are Emmanuel Boahen, the Accountant, and Anthony Kojo Nelson, the Public Relations Officer (PRO).

A letter signed by Mr. Nathaniel Otto, Director of Administration and General Counsel of the NHIA, said the “two shall be placed on half salary pending the outcome of the investigation.”

They would, however receive all arrears due them if absolved of any wrong doing.

Boahen and Nelson are said to have diverted monies paid by the Agogo Malaria Vaccine Trial Site (AMVTS) under a special registration exercise for members of the Saviour Church of Ghana in the Asante-Akim North District in October, last year.

Cheques issued to cover the cost were reportedly lodged into an old account of the scheme, which they had reactivated without the knowledge of the management.

They had also changed the names of signatories to the account into their own names and succeeded in withdrawing the cash.

The deal was uncovered when the scheme wrote to demand payment for the exercise and a subsequent audit report.
They were handed over to the police and have since been granted bail.
