Reverend Canon Timothy Kankam Dwumfour, out-going Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, at the weekend advised parents to restrict their children from the use of mobile phones at an early age.

Rev Dwumfour, who gave the advise at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for the Roman Catholic Basic School at Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality said the use of mobile phones at an early age could affect the brains of children.
He said research shows that the use of mobile phones at a tender age, especially on the right ear, affects a vein which connects the ear and the brain and could consequently lead to brain damage.

The out-going Director stated that when a child’s brain is damaged, his or her studies would definitely be affected.
Rev Dwumfour advised pupils to eschew lifestyles that could result in premature end to their education and concentrate on their studies to become great men and women in future.

He observed that fashion was now getting rooted in the nation’s educational institutions, adding that the situation was not helping the students because it was making most of them not to focus on their studies.

He said even though children had the right to do whatever they liked, they should not abuse those rights because they could become deviants and therefore a burden on the society.

Rev Dwumfour did another sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for Mmredane Municipal Assembly Primary School in Sunyani.
