A second-year senior high school (SHS) student is in the grip of the police for allegedly killing a taxi driver and dumping his body in the Kruokoso Forest at Sefwi Asawinso in the Western Region.

The suspect, Yaw Isaac, 24, is said have drained the taxi driver’s blood, leading to his death on Friday, June 29, this year, before taking over the taxi, with registration number AW 126-10.

The deceased has been identified by the police as Seth Nkansah, 22.

Yaw is said to have driven the taxi to Asawinso, parked it near the police station and left. The ignition key to the car and Nkansah’s shoes were found in the taxi. The body has, however, been deposited at the Juaboso Government Hospital pending autopsy.

But for the professional handling of the situation by the police, a mob would have lynched the suspect, said to be a student of the Sefwi Bekwai SHS, after he had been picked up from school to assist in investigations.

Yaw has since been sent to the Western Regional Police Command in Sekondi for his own safety, as the people of Asawinso are demanding instant justice.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Asawinso District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr Richard Boahene, said unknown to the suspect, a number of people in the town had seen him not only engage the deceased in a discussion, purportedly to contract him, but also saw him in the taxi with the deceased.

According to the commander, when Nkansah did not return home in the evening, some of the people who had seen Yaw in Nkansah’s taxi confronted him about the whereabouts of the deceased.

Yaw allegedly conceded to engaging the services of the deceased but said he had left him after Nkansah had taken him (Yaw) to his destination.

The District Police Commander said a search party later found Nkansah’s body in the Kruokoso Forest, while the taxi was parked near the District Police Command.

Mr Boahene said the suspect had confirmed his transaction with Nkansah to the police but denied knowing his whereabouts.

He said investigations were still ongoing and appealed to anyone with information on the incident to volunteer it to the police.
