FORMER CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare insists the NDC government intentionally introduced the NHIS capitation system to send more people to their graves earlier than expected.

The capitation system was introduced by the ruling NDC administration earlier this year on a pilot basis in the Ashanti region under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

But Dr. Nsiah Asare, a medical expert has shockingly disclosed that the system adopted for the NHIA was swiftly turning most health facilities in the region including KATH into human slaughtering houses.

Speaking with Kwadwo Marfo of Kapital Radio in Kumasi, the former KATH boss said since the introduction of the capitation system, most drugs which were previously taken care of by the NHIS were no longer covered.

He said a study he had been conducting with other medical professionals in the city revealed that people have been dying at an alarming level ever since the capitation system was introduced.

This, the medical professional complained had caused managers of most hospitals to turn away patients, asking them to pay for their own drugs. He added that those patients usually died before they could get the drugs to buy.

“The introduction of the capitation system is meant to kill people,” Dr. Asare said without mincing words, slamming the NHIA for introducing the system in the region in the first place.

The ex-KATH boss observed there had been a drastic and unprecedented reduction in NHIS registrations and renewals in the region, insisting the capitation system had not help matters at all.
