A 27-yeay-old taxi driver is in the hands of the Akosombo police for allegedly taking nude video footage of female students of Akwamuman Senior High School (SHS) at the bath house of the girls’ dormitory.
The suspect, Samuel Awuku, also known as Zak, was first arrested by the female students with the help of their male counterparts and handed over to the police on Wednesday. An accomplice, however, is on the run.
Awuku has been charged by the police for unlawful entry, and was released on a police enquiry bail to report himself periodically while investigation continue.
The Akosombo District Police Commander, DSP Reginald Osei, who confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times, said the police received information from the Senior House Master, Mr. Yidan Daniel Damoan, about the incident.
DSP Osei said Zak, according to reports, had been perpetrating the act for some time now within Akosombo and its outlying communities and later uploaded the nude pictures on facebook social network.
A student source told the Ghanaian Times that some of the female students who refused to observe the Monday evening pre period in the classroom, were in the bathhouse when one of them (name withheld) detected an intruder taking pictures of them.
The student raised the alarm and Awuku absconded to his waiting taxi cab, with registration number, GT 5172-12 which had been parked at a secluded place behind the girls’ dormitory.
Luck, however, eluded him when the students overpowered and arrested him in the early hours of Wednesday and handed him over to the Akosombo police.
His accomplice, believed to have bolted with the camera and who used to take the pictures, is being sought after by the police.
During interrogation, Awuku said he was on the school compound at 11 pm to deliver some items including money to one Priscilla Ohenewaa Asumani, a student, whom he claimed was his girl friend who had requested for some presents for her birthday.
But Priscilla in her caution statement to the police, denied knowledge of Awuku and stated that she was in the dormitory at the time of the incident.
The police retrieved nine pieces of condoms from Awuku during a search.
