Plans are far advanced for the long awaited rehabilitation works on the Adomi Bridge in the Eastern Region to begin.

This is according to the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA). Parliament has given approval for a loan facility from the Austrian government for the project rehabilitation.

Officials of the Ghana Highways Authority have stated that the bridge will be closed to traffic early next year to maintain the bridge which has been under immense pressure over the years.

Director of Bridges at the Ghana Highways Authority, Owusu Sekyere Antwi in an interview with XYZ News cautioned that the Bridge will collapse if left in its current state.

He added that alternative routes are being worked out as the bridge will be closed for about a year.

“This decision has been taken a long time ago but it was going through some processes”. Mr. Sekyere Antwi said adding that “a year or two ago we even had to bring in some consultants from Austria to examine it further. Currently we are working on the design for the work”.
