Some operatives who were recruited by the Electoral Commission in the Volta region during the nationwide biometric registration exercise have expressed concerns about their delayed payment.
According to the group, the timeline that was given to them for the payment by the EC has long elapsed without any information from the EC.
Speaking to XYZ News, a member of the frustrated workers William Ampah said he and his colleagues have received nothing from the EC since they completed the exercise almost two months ago.
“We have not heard anything from them. I was expecting that they will tell us that they will pay us at this particular time but no explanation has been given”.
“You go the office sometimes and the place is even closed and nobody is giving anybody any explanation and it’s been two months and we don’t even know if they will pay us interest on the money”.
But the Volta regional Electoral Commission in a reaction said their case is not unique.
The Regional Director of the Electoral Commission Lawrencia Kpatapkaa told XYZ News that the commission is yet to pay everyone who took part in the exercise.
“In the first place for the work that they did, they have not been paid fully… nobody in the country has been paid. All the operatives who worked for the biometric registration exercise have not been paid their allowance”.
