NATHANIEL UDAMA Edu, barring any hitches, would appear in an Accra Magistrate Court today on a holding charge of murder, for the alleged role he played in the killing of his 19-year-old lover, Matilda Asante.

Asante, an SHS leaver, was found dead in an abandoned, uncompleted house at Tantra Hills in Accra. Udama, 26, a Nigerian national, is being accused of allegedly killing his girlfriend over reasons not yet known.

He was arrested on Monday, June 18, 2012 at about 8:00am in an internet café while browsing. His activities on the World Wide Web raised suspicions that he might be in the ‘sakawa’ business.

Detectives traced the bed sheet covering the deceased to Udama’s room, where they found that it was a match to a pillow-case.

The Mile 7 Police District Commander, DSP Peter Yembila, told DAILY GUIDE that when the police got to the uncompleted building, the body of the victim was lying in a supine position covered with a bed sheet, while her legs and neck were tied.

Police also discovered that a black polythene bag had been used to cover the deceased’s head before tying it to her neck, which was broken.

The police suspected that the victim might have been killed in a nearby house and thrown into the abandoned structure. They therefore went into the adjoining house and met one Nigerian by name Collins Uka, who claimed he lived there with his younger brother who had moved to Ghana from Nigeria about eight months ago.

The police informed him of their mission and began a door-to-door search, which yielded significant results.

When they entered one of the rooms, a pillow-case that matched the bed sheet used to cover the deceased was discovered.

Murdered Matilda
Uka, who was utterly shocked, told the police that the room was his younger brother’s, adding that he was browsing at a nearby internet café.

Police proceeded to the said café and arrested the suspect, who confirmed his relationship with the deceased but insisted they had last seen each other in April.

Suspect Udama disclosed that he however communicated with the deceased on phone and the last conversation they had was on Monday June 11, 2012 but the police were highly suspicious of him.

Udama was therefore arrested and had since been in the Mile 7 police cells while investigation into the matter continued.
