Unauthorized buildings and other structures at La are to be demolished given the area’s attainment of municipal status to make way for proper and well planned development.

Nii Amasah Namoale, the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, and the President of the La Traditional Council, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III, jointly made the announcement at La in Accra to caution residents who may become victims for having their property at unauthorised places.

The announcement was made Tuesday, when the MP handed over a completed pavement project he initiated on the La durbar ground, the road behind the La Market and some adjoining areas.

Nii Namoale said the municipal status of La required new efforts to attain some level of development that could only be achieved when the people cooperate and understand that the society’s interest should supersede that of individuals.

“When the Municipality takes-off fully, buildings and all structures on roads, walkways and drainages would have to be cleared and the various offenders must understand this,” the MP said.

“We want the La Municipality to be the best in terms of development in beauty in Ghana. The Municipality will, therefore, need the cooperation of all for the anticipated development,” Nii Namoale said.

Nii Tettey Tsuru said the municipal status called for nothing but modernisation, therefore, people should not misconstrue it to mean destruction of their property, such as buildings and stalls or containers.

“Let’s not destroy this opportunity for our municipal status to develop,” he said. “Let’s stop the backbiting and hatred for one another and rather unite with a common purpose to change our lifestyles and socio-economic conditions.”

“Let us endeavour to speak the truth always and do away with insults and intemperate language,” the Chief said.
