All 10 prisoners, who escaped from the James Camp Prison, have voluntarily returned and are in the custody of the Ghana Prisons Service.

The “low prisoners” took to their heels when a private developer, Ivy Frances Anning, broke the wall protecting the prison following a legal tussle over the land in which the camp is situated.

Ghana Prisons Service authorities have argued that the private developer failed to give them notice before the demolition in a case that has been ongoing for some time now.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Prisons Service, ASP Courage Atsem, confirms to Citifmonline.com that all the escapees returned on their own.

ASP Atsem explained that the camp harbours prisoners who have served most part of their sentences and “are reintegrating into society” hence they are not “that harmful to society.”

“They go out on hire labour,” he told Citifmonline.com. “It was because of the unusual noise that they heard [when the walls came down] that made them take to their heels. Now that they are aware that the situation is calm they have all returned.”
