Three persons have found themselves in the dock for inflicting multiple cutlass and machete wounds on their brother and breaking his right arm in the process over claims to a house left for them by their late father.

The first accused, Issah Sumani, 42 and a taxi driver, Baba Issah, 35, a farmer, and Sumani Lukman, who is currently at large, all live in the same house with the victim at Teshigu, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis.

According to the facts of the case, the trio were unhappy about the occupation of the house by the victim, Baba Musah, and his other brothers.

Issah Sumani filed a suit in court against the complainant and the brothers in respect of the house but the court threw out the case for lack of merit.

This decision was reported to have infuriated the accused person as he sought to pray the court to give him the authority to own the said house.

On June 10, 2012, after the court’s verdict, Issah Sumani led the other two accused persons to the complainant’s room, armed with cutlasses and sticks, and assaulted him and broke his right arm in the process.

The complainant shouted for help, which attracted some neighbours to the scene but the accused persons run away, leaving the complainant to his fate.

The complainant was sent to the police station by some Good Samaritans to file a report and there, he met the three accused persons also in the process of also lodging a complaint against him.

The accused persons were immediately identified and they were arrested and detained, after which the complainant was issued a police medical form to seek treatment at a hospital. He was however admitted.

The accused persons were charged with assault and causing harm and arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court, where they were remanded into prison custody by the court presided over Senyo Amedahe to re-appear on July 17, 2012.

Checks at the Tamale Teaching Hospital revealed the victim was still on admission in the hospital.
