Two persons were shot while several others sustained various degrees of injuries in an armed robbery attack on a metro mass transit bus on the Asankragwa-Bawdie stretch in the Wassa Amenfi East district of the Western Region.

The unidentified armed robbers attacked over 50 passengers on board the bus at Pensaso, near Asankragwa around 0400hours early this morning.
One of the persons shot was the driver of the bus as well as a female passenger while several others were injured.

The robbers robbed passengers of their money and valuables while those who resisted were severely beaten.
The Asankragwa police confirmed the robbery to the GNA on Monday and added that further investigations are underway to arrest the robbers.

A victim of the robbery, Madam Agatha Cudjoe said the bus took off around 0330hours from Asankragwa and on arriving at Pensaso, they realized that the road had been blocked with logs.

She said the driver tried to avoid the logs but the robbers shot the back tyres of the bus and the driver in the process.
Madam Cudjoe indicated that when the bus stopped, the robbers robbed them of their money and valuables and bolted into a nearby bush.

The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment and a report was made to the Asankragwa police.
