THE ASHAIMAN Circuit Court presided over by Justice Yao Azumah has sentenced a 33 year old driver to three years imprisonment for posing as a senior police officer and extorting monies from his victims under the guise of securing them employment with the Ghana Police Service.

Emmanuel Nyame Koranching according to prosecutor Chief Inspector Salifu Yahaya, presented himself to a witness in the case as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the Prampram Police Station and promised to secure anyone interested in joining the police service a job for a fee.

The complainant, an unnamed graduate of the Ada Technical School and a resident of Ashaiman was reported to have expressed interest in becoming a policeman. Subsequently, his brother who is a witness in the case, told Koranching about it.

Prosecution said Koranching reiterated his promise and demanded GH˘400 from the complainant. He further requested his exams results slip which he claimed would enable him secure him employment with the service.

The complainant brought the document and money to the convict but after receiving them he went into hiding.

Worried that time was running out and that he might not get the chance to serve in the police service, the complainant cross checked Koranching’s claims at the Prampram Police Station where he was informed that he is neither a policeman nor a senior police officer.

Disappointed, the victim reported the matter to police who after careful investigation arrested Koranching and charged him with the offence.

He was subsequently jailed three years for deceit and extortion.
