There is raging controversy over the decision by the Ashaiman Police to arrest a man in the area following a complaint by a prostitute.

The Police picked up the man on Friday morning after the prostitute complained that he has refused to pay for services offered.

The incident is the talk of town because prostitution is an illegal act. Some lawyers who spoke to XYZ News said the said gentleman should contact an attorney to take on the Police.

According to them, the law makes it an offense to practice prostitution and anyone who patronises the service of a prostitute would be guilty only if the Police can prove that an exchange of a sort occurred.

While some residents of Ashaiman blamed the police for acting unprofessionally, others believed that the man patronised a service and must pay for the bargain.

A lawyer, Abraham Amaliba, has described as a clear abuse of right, the decision by the Police to arrest the man.

Lawyer Amaliba told XYZ News the Police have no justification to press charges against the suspect because the law does not recognise the woman as having been licensed to engage in a lawful activity.

He said the suspect is being held against his own will and must quickly look for a lawyer who will go through the process and get him out of cell.
