Government of Ghana and authorities of the Nigerian Allied Air Cargo plane have come up with a package for the families of the victims.
The cargo plane which crashed landed at the Hajj Village near El-Walk stadium in Accra on Saturday June 2nd, lost control and collided with a minivan (207 trotro ) killing ten people while the four crew members on board survived.
The Boeing 727 Allied Air plane which had flown in from neighboring Nigeria, over shot the runway before the crash.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Transport, Dzifa Aku Attivor tells Gold News that “we have instated an investigation into the plane crash which is ongoing, but there is a need to give some comfort to those who have lost their loved ones”.
She further explained that “we have so far visited about four of the families of the deceased and gave them some monitory support from the government and also the management of Allied Air Cargo that crashed also brought some money to support them to be able to be able to organize the funerals of their beloved ones”.
The minister emphasized that the money government gave to the bereaved families does not cover insurance, “the insurance will come later. This is just to show some concern and sympathize with those who have lost their loved ones.”
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Dzifa Aku Attivor however declined to comment on the content of the package for the families of the victims saying “it is a substantial amount that will allow them to organize a befitting funeral for their lost ones. The insurance as contained in the Chicago convention will be paid at the appropriate time and that is a substantial amount”. She added.
