The National Service Scheme (NSS) has released the 2011/2012 postings for graduates to undertake in the one year mandatory service to the Nation.

Briefing the media on Tuesday at the National Service Secretariat, Executive Director of the Secretariat, Vincent Kuagbenu stated that a total of sixty thousand, three hundred and fifty (60,350) personnel have been deployed to serve with 7,613 organizations and 19,273 schools across the country.

The Service, which begins October 1, will also have personnel posted to various sectors of the economy.

Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu explained that since the Greater Accra Region has the most companies and sectors, a total of 14,931 service persons had been posted there, while 2,478 persons, the lowest number, had been posted to the Upper East Region.

In view of government's policy to provide quality education for Ghanaians, close to 60-70 percent of the service personnel had been posted to the education sector in order to meet the shortfall in the supply of teachers to the rural areas, and the remainder had been distributed to other MDAs, District Assemblies and the private sectors.

According to Vincent Kuagbenu, National Service is a call to national duty; therefore wherever one finds oneself posted to he/she should not see it as a punishment.

He emphasised that it was only the National Service Scheme that had the sole mandate to recruit persons.
