A renowned soothsayer at Ejisu-Besease in the Ashanti Region, Mallam Mohammed Yahaya, popularly known as Mallam Acheeba, has been arrested by the Ejisu Police for allegedly defrauding lady to the tune of GH¢2,450 under the pretext of recovering and cleansing an ancestral gold deposit for her.
According to the Ejisu Police, the suspect, Mallam Yahaya was contracted by the complainant, Maame Yaa, a resident of Asokwa in Kumasi to help dig a gold deposit bequeathed to her by her late grandfather at a farm land at Kotwi, close to Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
The Ejisu District Police commander, ASP Stephen Awuah Baffour, who confirmed the incident to a Kumasi based radio station said Mallam Acheeba agreed to help the complainant demanded an initial amount of GH¢450 after which he accompanied Maame Yaa to the site to dig up the gold around 1:00 am.
ASP Awuah Baffour said after the gold was dug, Mallam Acheeba gave it to the complainant to keep, but Maame Yaa allegedly returned the gold piece to Acheeba, claiming that it was haunting her.
Mallam Yahaya then demanded GH¢2000 Ghana cedis from the complainant, for spritual purification, before the said gold could be used. ASP Awuah Barfour continued that after the money was paid to him, he failed to deliver on his promises and later told the complainant that the gold had turned into ordinary copper, as a result of the complainant’s disobedience . Maame Yaa, therefore, made a report to the Ejisu Police and Mallam was subsequently arrested, when he could not account for the money paid to him. The District Police Commander, however, said the complainant declined to press any charges against the suspect, who has since been granted bail, and asked to produce the money by the end of the month.
