The Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. Seth Tekpeh has explained that in 2006, the Sefwi-Wiawso district which then included Sefwi-Akontombra received 132 spraying machines and 12,000 litres of insecticides for the cocoa mass spraying exercise.

According to the deputy minister, the district also received 5000 litres of insecticides in 2007 for the mass spraying of cocoa. Mr. Tekpeh stated this in response to a question by Hon. Herod Cobbinah, MP for Sefwi-Akontombra.

The MP wanted to know the mode of distribution and quantity of chemicals as well as the number of spraying machines allocated for the cocoa mass spraying exercise in Sefwi-Akontombra district from 2006 to 2008.

Mr. Tekpeh said in 2008 when Sefwi-Akontombra had become a separate district, it (sefwi–akontombra district) received 23,000 litres of insecticides for the cocoa mass spraying exercise. He promised to draw the attention of the management of Cocobod on the need to increase the number of machines allocated to the Sefwi-Akontombra district for the mass spraying of cocoa.
