The GOASO District Police Command has mounted a search for the founder of Holy Fire Pentecostal Church, Prophet Nana Sefa aka Ogya Nyame, who has been accused of sexually harassing female congregants.

The police say Ogya Nyame has since March 1, when the Goaso Traditional Council sat on alleged rape cases brought against him and his subsequent invitation by the police, vanished into thin air.

According to the District Commander, Superintendent Twumasi Ankrah, the police invited Ogya Nyame to answer to charges of rape and other criminal activities leveled against him by some members of his church and the Goaso Municipal Hospital, but he failed to appear.

He said during the settlement of the case at the Goaso Traditional Council, the prophet, who has sued Daily Guide and seven others, tendered in a hospital folder from the Municipal Hospital containing the confidential medical history of the late husband of one of his alleged victims, Rebecca Kwao, to back his argument.

The prophet claimed that knowing very well Mrs. Kwao’s late husband allegedly died of AIDS; he would not have sexually assaulted her because she might be infected with the virus as well. The police on the other hand reported that according to their investigations the victim’s husband died of cardiac arrest.

The hospital administration however reported the prophet to the police as they sought an explanation to how he got access to the confidential folder. After several allegations on radio against the prophet, the Goasomanhene and his council intervened by summoning the prophet and his accusers on March 1.

Other women claiming to have been sexually assaulted by the prophet include a deaconess of the church and the wife of an elder.

Reports say the actions of the founder have infuriated many male members of the church who have since stopped attending, while others who were married to alleged victims have divorced them. After the chiefs noticed that there were some elements of criminality in the allegation, they asked the police to take over the case.

Supt. Ankrah said efforts to get the prophet to fight the accusations leveled against him have proved futile as he has left the town for an unknown destination. “We only hear him talking on radio”, the police capo indicated, hence their intense search.

In the suit filed at the Sunyani High Court, Ogya Nyame claimed that a publication in Daily Guide under the caption “Pastor Grabs Women Buttocks” was libelous and has exposed him to public ridicule. Joined in the suit filed by Kwaku Antwi-Agyei of Hen Waa Chambers are some elders of the church and Nananom FM, Goaso.
