Ghanaian Farmers To Receive 1000 New Tractors

Indian Automobile Manufacturer Mahindra Motors will in May this year, supply 1000 tractors to farmers across the country. The company is also expected to set up a servicing and training plant to complement the existing one in Kumasi to serve farmers in the Northern and Southern sectors of the country.

Vice President John Mahama, who is in currently in India, signed the agreement with officials of Mahindra. Under the arrangement, government will provide guarantees for the farmers to purchase the tractors to be paid by installments over a period of time yet to be determined.

John Mahama said the tractors form part of government’s Savannah Accelerated Development Authority agenda to bridge the development gap between the northern and the southern sectors.

The Vice President the company to consider including tractor accessories such as ploughs, tillers, harrows, trolleys and other machinery that would facilitate production of crops in the country.
