| LPG Shortage Hits The Country |

A massive shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has hit some parts the country. The shortage, according to Citi News visited some fuel stations in Accra and said it is so dire that several drivers have had to endure the displeasure of queuing for hours to get gas from the filling stations.
Some taxi drivers who spoke to Citi News disclosed that the shortage started on Friday. At the Awudome filling station in Accra, the drivers who had queued up for the product since 4am, said they had combed several filling stations in the City but failed to get gas to buy.
The Public Relations Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Yaro Kasambata has confirmed the shortage to Citi News. According to him the situation was caused by some problems TOR encountered over the weekend, while discharging some 5000 metric tones of LPG imported into the country. “During the discharging of the product over the weekend, Tema Oil Refinery detected leakages in the line. So they’ve had to shut down the discharge, trace where the leakage is and then rectify it before they can resume the discharge of the product.
“Because of this, we anticipate that the 5000 metric tones that are already meant for the market to alleviate the present shortage will delay and that’s why we wish to appeal to the public that immediate steps have indeed been taken to rectify them. But for the leakage we had over the weekend, I’m sure we would have seen products on the market.” He explained.
He assured that rectification is underway and within the shortest possible time the problem will be solved for operations to begin. |
