One of the victims of the alleged military sexual escapade at Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District says the squalid act by the soldiers has broken her much cherished virginity.

Nineteen year old Mary Issah, who claims she was subjected to a round each of sexual bouts by a military officer and a policeman, says she is yet to come to terms with the fact that her much-protected virginity had been defiled in such a wicked manners.

Narrating her ordeal on telephone to a Kumasi-based radio sation, amidst sobbing and tears, Mary said the sex was rough and merciless, emphasizing that she could still feel the pain of the despicable act by the security officers in her lower abdomen. “I cannot describe what happened with words, the soldier pointed the gun at me, and asked me to undress. When I resisted, he pulled my skirt with the tip of the gun, and forcibly removed my panties before raping me,” she recounted.

Mary, who says got to Nalerigu just six months ago from Offinso in the Ashanti Region, to learn a trade as hairdresser, further alleged that the two officers took away an amount of GH¢98 cash which she had been asked to deposit at the bank the next morning.

The latest incident comes in the wake of recent alleged brutalities and inhumane treatment on the part of military personnel, who have been detailed to maintain law and order in some trouble spots in the northern part of the country, with the zenith being the recent reports of the callous handling of two alleged suspects in the Bawku conflicts by some military personnel, after they were stripped naked and paraded through the streets of the town.

The victim said she got home from work around 6:00p.m, when she heard large noise outside only, to discover that the house in which she lived had been surrounded by military and police personnel.

For fear of losing her life, Mary said she quickly rushed to her room and locked the door, but a few minutes later, she heard someone banging, warning her to open the door, with a threat to break-in if she failed to open.

“I quickly opened the door and found one policeman and a military officer; they entered the room and hurriedly locked it from inside, I also lied prostrate on my bed,” he stated.

At that moment, Mary said the two officers asked her to sit up, “I resisted but they threatened to shoot me, when I eventually obliged, the military man took the money and warned me not to shout, or else I would have myself to blame, and I was afraid so I didn’t.”

The nineteen year old victim said when she thought that the two officers were going to leave, after ransacking the room, the military officer told the policeman to wait; he looked at me, as I lay on the bed, and asked me to undress, I resisted, but he used his gun to remove the skirts and stripped me naked.”

As if it was something which had been planned, Mary said she could hear the military officer asking the policeman if he had got a condom on him, but the policeman said no, and so “the soldier said he would do it like that, after which he instructed the policeman to also take his turn; they went for one round each before I shouted for help.”
She said the people outside, who were unaware of the presence of the two officers, because they thought all of them had gone, quickly pushed the door open, and saw her lying helplessly on the bed.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Nalerigu police have taken possession of the dress of the nineteen year old victim for a forensic test, as part of the investigations, to ascertain the veracity of the accusations.
