Buduwa Akum, a 35-year-old farmer, at Ohemaa near Oframase in the Kwahu East District, on Friday appeared before the Mpraeso Circuit Court for beating his girlfriend resulting in her death.

Akum, whose plea was not taken, is facing a provisional charge of murder.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alex Acheampong, told the court presided over by Mr Alex Owusu-Ofori that the accused and the deceased, Madam Amma Ataa Tetteh, aged 45, with eight children had been in relationship for the past four years.

He said on November 14 this year, Akum went to the woman's house in the evening and invited her to come and spend the night with him but she refused.

That brought a misunderstanding between them and the accused started to assault the woman until one of her children came to her rescue.

The prosecutor said the deceased complained of bodily pains and later collapsed in front of her house at about 0200 hours and was rushed to the Kwahu Government hospital at Atibie but died the following day.

The accused had been remanded in prison custody to re-appear on November 30, 2009.
