Five armed robbers, on Friday attacked a neoplan bus travelling from Accra to Damanko near the bridge across River Oti in Nkwanta South District of the Volta Region.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Douglas Kumah in charge of the District, confirmed the incident to GNA and said it was the fourth robbery at the same spot this year.

ASP Asumah said the driver of the bus told the Police that the robbers blocked the road with tree stumps compelling him to stop the vehicle.

He also told the Police that the robbers wielding guns and machetes emerged from the bush, entered the bus and robbed the 55 passengers on board the vehicle of their money, wrist watches, mobile phones, ornaments and loaves of bread.

The District Police Commander said some of the passengers, who resisted an order from the robbers to lie down with their faces facing the ground, were assaulted.

He said the Police had taken custody of an unserviceable gun, live cartridge and a machete left in the vehicle by the robbers.

Madam Alice Haruna, a trader on board the vehicle, told GNA that the robbers assaulted and hit her knee with the butts of their guns.
