The Head of Communications of a popular journalism university college in Accra, Rev Father Anthony Adenu Mensah, has been remanded into prison custody for allegedly leading a gang of homosexuals to sodomise a minor.
Rev. Father Adenu, 45 who lectures in Media Ethics, was busted by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service, together with two others, George Akorful, 24, and Bobby Owusu Adae Appiagyei, 22, alias Pastor, when the 15 year old boy began to experience abdominal pains.
Father Adenu was said to be a former head of a seminary in Sunyani, and currently the Chaplain of the school, has in his credentials former Editor of a catholic newspaper, and is a holder of a Masters in Divinity, obtained from a University in Rome.
The case has been adjourned to November 18, this year, by an Accra circuit court, presided over by Justice Georgina Mensah Datsa.
Briefing the Chronicle on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of DOVVSU, Chief Inspector Irene Oppong, said the victim lives at East Legon with his parents.
She said on October 19, this year, the DOVVSU received a referral from the Legon Police Station, indicating that the mother of the victim had reported that somewhere in September, four people sodomised her son, resulting in him incurring severe abdominal pains.
The boy was admitted at the Police Hospital, and during investigations it came out that George, a trader staying at East Legon, Bobby, Linfold (now at large), and the Franciscan Friar, who presently lives in Kasoa, were responsible for the act. She continued that the victim was introduced to the suspects, who are friends, by Bobby, and they had unnatural carnal knowledge of the victim on different occasions.
On October 13, this year, the victim complained of being sick, and was given some painkillers by his mother, and later was treated for malaria for three days, which could not help his condition.
Whilst the boy’s mother, who is the complainant in the case, was preparing to send the boy to the hospital, a neighbour, who had seen the victim recently in the company of Bobby, questioned the victim concerning his friendship with Bobby, since he (Bobby) was suspected of being a homosexual.
The victim then admitted that the four had sodomised him, as a result, the neighbour consequently informed the victim’s mother, and the case was reported to the police.
The case was first sent to court on October 26. The three are facing charges of defilement of a child under 16 years of age, which is contrary to Section 101 as amended by Sect 11 of Act 554/98.
