The Great Trust and Foundation, a UK-based think-thank has spoken against sceptics who dissent with the scientific consensus that human-produced greenhouse gases leads to climatic change.

The sceptics are of the opinion that carbon dioxide and other human generated gases, cannot lead to climate change and are campaigning for a halt to any tax-funded attempts to counteract the phenomenon.

The group including the Heartland Institute sponsored International Conference on Climate Change led by one Fred Singer and the Non-governmental International Panel on Climate Change have put in motion a Manhattan Declaration to champion their views.

A statement issued by Dr Koku Adomdza of the foundation and copied to the Ghana News Agency said climate change was real, adding: "As sure as day and night, climate change is a contagion and no respecter of nations, regions, continents, ethnicities, religions or cultures."

It said the global leaders assembled in Copenhagen must exhibit wisdom and intelligence by achieving a just and ethical agreement on climate change.

The statement said: "Global poverty which afflicts the economically weaker countries, is a product of the global economic disorder, of which climate change is a by product."

It said it made sense for the economically weaker countries, which also happen to be the greater perpetrators of carbon footprints and pollution to contribute to reverse or remedy the havoc.

"For once, we want to have confidence in the global leaders to be wise, adopt a new paradigm framework, and arrive at a just deal to save the world and future generations from disaster," the statement said.
