A Jehovah Witness man, Kwabena Afum and his wife, Margret Afum aka Abena Oduma, have had a brush with the law after creating an unnecessary chaotic scene at New Edubiase Government Hospital in a bid to prevent medical officers from giving blood to their son.

Kwabena Afum was arrested last week Tuesday and granted a police enquiry bail the next day for causing panic and chaos by allegedly mobilizing some members of his church to foment trouble at the hospital.

He has since disowned five-year-old Jepheth Asamoah, who is currently in the custody of the Social Welfare Department in the district, even after his release.

According to Dr. Manye Mensah, Medical Superintendant Officer at the hospital, Jepheth was brought to the hospital on April 25, 2010 in an anaemic weak condition.

He said upon examination, he discovered the young boy had lost lots of blood which needed urgent replacement and therefore decided to stable his condition with a medication and oxygen that did not work.

He told Daily Guide that whilst the patient’s condition appeared stable because of the heamorrhage, he informed the couple about the need for a blood transfusion to replace the lost blood, which the couple resisted, citing their religious belief.

Bent on saving the life of the little boy, the Medical Superintendant indicated that as he and his team began the process of transfusion, Kwabena Afum and some members of Jehovah Witnesses besieged the theatre room in a bid to prevent them from carrying out their professional duties.

The police, upon hearing the story, rushed to the place to restore law and order and arrested the boy’s father in the process.

He has since disowned the poor boy for having received blood, as lawyers from the church intervened and secured his bail.

ASP Ebenezer Benson, New Edubiase District Police Commander, confirmed the arrest as well as the incident to Daily Guide and added that the farmer had been granted bail awaiting prosecution.
Jehovah Witnesses is a millenarian restorationist Christian denomination with non-Trinitarian beliefs distinct from mainstream Christianity.

The religion reports worldwide membership of over 7 million adherents involved in evangelism. They are directed by a governing body of elders which exercise authority on all doctrinal matters. Witnesses base their beliefs on the Bible and prefer their own translation, the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are best known for their door-to-door preaching, distribution of literature such as The Watchtower and Awake! and for their refusal of military service and blood transfusion even in life-threatening situations.

The group emerged from the Bible Students movement, founded in the late 19th Century by Charles Taze Russell, with the formation of Zion’s Watch Tower Tract Society.

Following a schism in the movement, the branch that maintained control of the society underwent significant organizational changes bringing its authority structure and methods of evangelism under centralized control. Since its inception, the Watch Tower Society has taught that the present world order is in its last days and will soon be destroyed by Armageddon.

There is nothing Christian about JW's. They follow the most perverted 'translation' of The Word of God and are guided by a bunch of windbags who don't know their Greek and Hebrew to save their lives, including their founder, Russell.

For the JW,s..I doubt any of you are Elders , MS servants so I can understand your stupidity..On the web pages that some have recommend too research are done by ex-elders, ex-pioneers, ex-Bethel Elders, Bethel works(writing dept. and A Governing Body member.) If you think all these people have been disfellowship for unclean acts against God, then you are wrong. Why do you think they discourage you from viewing these ex-jw pages. The truth will hold up under any lies..So you see they do not want you to learn the truth about the truth. I do not blame you for your like of knowledge..

There seems to be a problem with understanding cultural differences here, I know many africans from various countries and it is not such a strange thing to disown a child, give it away to others to care for etc. The shame for the couple may have been to great to bare so they disowned the child. This may appear awful to us, but think of how many aids infected people are disowned in Africa. The interesting point is that the Jehovah's Witnesses should have helped them to see that they should look after their child and help him, sadly many converts in underdeveloped countries have little education but much misplaced zeal. More women die in childbirth in these countries than anywhere else. Massive bloodloss is very common at childbirth for these women so being a JW is a definite risk factor in such places. Its also interesting that few would even know that JW's in the west can accept all kinds of fractions made from donated blood, fractions that require 100's of liters of donated blood to make tiny amounts of the fraction.

In one day over 900 were massacred at Jonestown. The pictures are horrifying, all those lifeless bodies of men, women, and children laying next to each other. The Governing Body of JW's continue their massacre of their innocent followers. My heart aches for them. 100's have died for need of a blood transfusion. Loyaly and passionately they stand up for a belief system that is at the whim of a group of men who would love to change the "no blood" rule but can't figure out how to change face. To every Jehovah's Witness who reads this know that you are loved, know that many people have a heart of love for you.

I never heard of parents disowning a young child because of blood transfusions. However, it was a common practice for Jehovah's Witnesses to "disfellowship" and shun an adult member who accepted them. The Watchtower organization has vacillated on its position concerning blood in recent years. Many blood fractions are now allowed that were forbidden. A number of its members died that could have survived under the present rules. Sadly, the Watchtower leadership takes no resonsibility for this.

Truth facts
Louis below is deceptive the US Army wants to go bloodless for convenience and not needing to store hard to acquire blood it has got NOTHING to do with vindication of the Jehovah's Witnesses cult. Remember JW DO USE BLOOD PRODUCTS and they keep going around and around about how *bad" blood is. Giving JW credit for surgical advancements is like saying Mcdonalds 'invented' french fries.

Go to You Tube and search under "Bloodless Surgery" or Englewood Hospital. They just got a 4.69 Million Dollar Grant from the U.S. Defense Dept. to train U.S. Millitary doctors in the art of bloodless medicine. This has made the news with several news agencies. The U.S. Millitary is attempting to go "bloodless" due to the inherent dangers of blood transfusions.
