The Reverend Father Stephen Opoku, Vice Dean of the Amakom Catholic Church, has cautioned the youth not to engage in immoral acts during Valentine Day, which falls on Sunday, February 14.

He said any moral indiscretion on their part would be irreversible and would haunt and traumatize them eternally.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Rev. Fr. Opoku observed that although the day has been set aside to show love to mankind, it has lost its true meaning and significance in recent times.

"Many of the country's young people use the day for promiscuity," he said, adding that it is important for the youth to have a better understanding of the motive behind Valentine.

Rev. Fr. Opoku suggested the need for churches and other religious groups to use the day to organise programmes like fun games and competitions to occupy the youth on that day.

The Vice Dean said the day, should re-unite and rekindle cherished family values.

Rev. Fr. Opoku noted that since the country had linked the day to the consumption of chocolate, there is the need for the establishment of a chocolate fair or exhibition to encourage patronage of the product.
