Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has revealed that the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama died of a stroke.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama was admitted at the cardiothoracic unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital a week before he passed away.

In an exclusive interview with Citi News, former President Kufuor revealed that his late deputy had collapsed on a campaign platform at Atebubu in the Bono Ahafo region.

“I never thought he was unwell till about three weeks ago when we learnt that he had collapsed during campaigning in Atebubu area. He was flown to Korle Bu and recovered after days."

According to the former President, “he [Mahama] went up North to celebrate the Eid, but after some days the report came that he had collapsed again and had been brought back to Korle Bu”.

“I visited only to learn that he had been stricken with a stroke from which he didn’t recover."

“Ghana has lost a fine human being with a great personality. He was ready to serve and did not suffer from complexes. He worked very hard in government so it is a very big blow to me personally,” he said.
