The Tarkwa Nsueam veterinary services department on Tuesday launched a mass anti rabies campaign vaccination to curb the increasing cases of rabies in the Municipality.

The exercise, which would cover domestic and stray animals such as cats, dogs and monkeys, is scheduled to take place in Tarkwa Nsueam and Prestea Huni/Valley Assemblies.

Launching the campaign at Mile 8 in the Western region, Mrs Christina Kobinah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsueam, said considering the increasing cases reported on rabies at the Tarkwa Government Hospital the Assembly decided to assist the veterinary services department when they called on them to support in making the vaccination exercise free for all.

She said the assembly has provided 10,200 Ghana cedis to the Veterinary Services Department to enable them vaccinate every animal in the Municipality.

Mrs Kobinah appealed to the people of Tarkwa Nsueam to take advantage of the exercise by vaccinating their animals to help in eliminating the deadly disease from their various communities.

Dr Simon Gbene, Municipal Veterinary Officer of Tarkwa Nsueam, said they had to resort to the Assembly for assistance as only one of the mining companies in the area had donated 500 Ghana cedis.

The Municipal Veterinary Officer expressed gratitude to the assembly and GMC for the gesture adding he called on those residing at Booboobo, Nsuta, Brahabebome, Tamso , Agric Hill, Kadawen and the other areas where the disease has been identified to make their animals available as the veterinary officers will be moving round to immunize them.
