A Senior Energy Expert at the World Bank Ghana Office Sunil Mathrami has attributed the lapses in Ghana's electricity sector to political interference.
He noted that persons are selected to the ECG and PURC boards based on their political affiliations rather than their technical know-how in the Energy sector.
Speaking at the opening of the three day Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences Lectures in Accra, the Energy Specialist added that successive governments are interested in extending electricity to rural Ghana without investing in transmission.
Mr. Mathrani indicated that even though Ghana is one of the best in terms of electricity supply in Sub-Saharan Africa, the ECG needs a yearly investment of 100 million dollars to improve its energy delivery.
The President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Allotey said the county's electricity sector need re-engineering calling on government to turn attention to other energy sources such as solar and gas.
