District Chief Executive for the Fanteakwa District in the Eastern Region has extended special appeal to the Regional Minister, Victor Smith to assist the district to acquire frequency modulation band to commence a radio station in the district.

According to him, the assembly has successfully constructed, equipped and furnished an FM Station to promote participatory democracy and good governance and to bring governance to the door steps of the people.

However, this quest has been impeded by difficulty in frequency allocation that would have paved way for commencement of work at the station. He stated that several follow ups made to the National Communication Authority has not yielded positive results yet.

Radio has become the major medium of reaching out to people in various communities in Ghana. Unlike many other African countries where private ownership of radio stations are banned, the government of Ghana rather encouraged the establishment of community radio stations, either by government or private sector in order that they use the local languages or a combination of languages to educate the citizens on government policies and programmes.

This has motivated even some assemblies in the country to venture into the sector to promote grass root participation in the day to day affairs of the districts.
