Two persons have been reported dead as a result of Thursday’s rainstorm that hit some parts of the Tamale metropolis.

Hundreds of people have also been rendered homeless in the affected areas including Sakasaka, Kukuo, Jisonaayili, Gumani, Wurishie, Moshie Zongo and Kukuo.

Reporting from Tamale, a freelance journalist, Mashoud Kombat said, “When we got to the Gariba Lodge area we gathered that one school pupil was carried away by the gashing water and another motor-rider who declined the advice of onlookers was also swept away by the floods.”

According to him, a rescue team later retrieved the mortal remains of the school pupil but that of the motorbike-rider could not be found.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Moses Bukari Mabengba on Friday toured some of the affected communities.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Mabengba advised residents of the Tamale Metropolis to desist from building on waterways and stop choking the drains with plastic waste. “Our people need constant education to avoid building on waterways and avoid choking the drains with plastic waste,” he said.

Some of the displaced people including Steven Zoure, Daily Guide’s Northern Regional reporter narrated his ordeal to Citi News.

“I lost virtually everything I have labored for over the years to acquire; my three bedroom apartment was swept by the storm but thankfully I was home and could pick some few documents that I need to survive with,” he said.

“For fear that my house could be looted at night I managed to erect a portion of the zinc somewhere in the corner of the room that was where I slept; but the rest of the people I arranged for them to put up in a hotel till this morning we will see the way forward.”
