The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Augustine Gyenning, has asked political parties to refrain from clothing criminals with party colours.

Speaking at a meeting with political leaders in Kumasi, DCOP Gyenning asked politicians to shelve their parochial interest and seek the good of society.

He said, “Crime is crime and criminals will be made to face the full rigours of the law no matter the party they belong [to],” he warned.

He pledged the police commitment at all times and in all situations to be fair to all parties and requested them to join the security services in planned monthly route matches through the principal streets of Kumasi to educate the citizens on the need for them to be tolerant and peace loving .

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr F.F. Anto, re-echoed the NPP’s concern over why regional ministers and metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) are still presiding over the respective regional, metropolitan, municipal and district security councils even though many of them are contesting in the parliamentary elections.

In a reply, DCOP Gyenning explained that the situation has been the same for all the previous elections.

The parties pledged their commitment to join in the planned monthly route matches.
