Leaders of the Muslim community in Hohoe in the Volta region have launched a passionate appeal to the Gbi Traditional Council to extend the 48-hour ultimatum given them to return stolen regalia from the Togbe Gaabusu Palace when some youth attacked and vandalised the palace.

But reports say the Gbi Traditional Council is unwilling to extend its 48-hour ultimatum given to the Muslim youth.

Togbe Afede XIV, who is the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, has met with the Gbi Traditional Council headed by the Togbe Gaabusu to consider its 48-hour ultimatum it issued to Muslims to return the regalia. However, indications are that his appeals have been largely ignored.

Spokesperson for the Hohoe Traditional Council, Togbe Agyemang V, insists if the Muslims want a peaceful coexistence, the stolen regalia would have to be returned within the given time frame.

But the Muslim community say extending the ultimatum beyond the 48 hour deadline which ends on Friday will enable them find those in possesion of the regalia or find an alternative solution to ensure that peace prevails.

The Gbi Traditional Council on Wednesday issued the ultimatum to the Muslim community demanding stolen regalia from Togbe Gabusu’s Palace or will advise themselves.

According to the Gbi Traditional Council, some Muslims are suspected to have stolen regalia belonging to the Paramount Chief of Hohoe, Togbe Gabusu’s after violence broke out in the community on Monday.

The Muslims are also accused of destroying properties of Togbega Gabusu, who they accuse of ordering the exhumation of the dead body of their Chief Imam.

A dusk to dawn curfew was imposed on the Muslim community after the clashes that claimed two lives.

Alhaji Anas Dawuda spokesperson for the Muslim youth in the community told JoyFM that everything possible will be done to ensure that the stolen regalia are retrieved and returned to Togbega Gabusu to ensure that both factions live in peace.
