Peacefmonline.com can confirm that a cargo plane has just crashed into the Hajj Village near the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

Though the cause of the incident has not been established as yet, it is believed that poor visibility due to the heavy thunderstorm that hits parts of the capital this evening, might have caused the plane to crash.

PeaceFM's Emmanuel Bekoe, who was at the airport to meet former President Rawlings from his trip to Somalia, rushed to the scene and quotes eye-witness as saying, the cargo plane said to belong to 'Allied Air', crashlanded on a 207 Commercial Benz bus with registration number GR 5471 Z after failing to land the first time.

In an attempt to land again, the cargo plane, with the number 5NBJN embossed on it, tried circling but hit the wall with a wire meshed at the top, erected as a security embankment at the airport in the process, lurched sharply to the right and rammed into the Benz bus.

Unconfirmed reports say twelve (12) people - eleven (11) occupants in the Benz bus and a military officer who was riding a motor-bike - have perished in the wreckage.

However, four crew members of the cargo plane reportedly survived the crash and are said to be receiving medical attention at the 37 Military Hospital.
