The Ivorian government has agreed to join the Ghanaian authorities to find an amicable and acceptable solution to their boundary issue following the discovery of oil in commercial quantities in the Gyata Wells near Cape Three Points.
It has also requested the Ghana government to bail it out of the current power outages, which threaten that country’s economy. At a media briefing in Accra after interacting with President John Evans Atta Mills at the Castle, Osu, yesterday, the Ivorien Minister of Mines and Energy, Mr Kouadio Komoe Augustine, said the two countries should not allow the boundary issue to mar the existing cordial relations that existed between the two countries.
The Ivorian Minister was in the country at the head of a delegation which included the country’s Director of Survey and Chairman of the Energy Commission to deliver a special message from President Laurent Gbagbo to President Mills.
Even though the contents of the message were not made available to the media, they were believed to have centred on the recent boundary issue between the two countries and the power crisis facing Cote d’Ivoire. Mr Augustin said Cote D’Ivoire and Ghana were bonded by historical ties, for which reason the two countries should allow the good neighbourliness between them to resolve any seeming difficulties on their frontiers.
He assured the government and the people of Ghana to tacit co-operation by the government of Cote D’Ivoire to arrive at conclusions which could continue to deepen the relations between them.
