President John Evans Atta Mills has called on developed nations to support the World Bank Group’s bid for a capital increase in order to boost the Bank’s funding capacity for low-income countries.

President Mills made the call during a meeting with the World Bank’s Managing Director, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. He stated, “The World Bank Group has been a key partner in helping Ghana and other countries on the African Continent navigate through the current financial crises.

Even though we have seen some positive results in managing the crises, it is important that developed nations act to ensure the World Bank Group has all the resources needed.”

President Mills put forward that the World Bank must be fully capitalized to enable it continue to support developing nations, especially nations on the African Continent.

On her part, the World Bank’s Managing Director, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed the Bank’s support for Ghana’s 2010 budget and commitment to protect the poor and vulnerable.
