The assemblyman for Abousum Electoral Area, Mr Raphael Cubagee, has been fined 24 rams and bottles of foreign schnapps each for scandalizing Nana Bosoma Aso Nkraniri II, Omanhene of Sunyani.

The Sunyani Traditional Council (STC) which imposed the fine, ordered that the fine, be paid by tomorrow. Mr Cubagee was accused of writing a letter copied to the Osu Castle, the seat of government in Accra and some security agencies, alleging that Nana Nkraniri had collaborated with officials of the Town and Country Planning Department of the Sunyani Municipality Assembly to re-zone lands in the municipality for sale illegally.

In the said letter, Mr Cubagee allegedly urged the President to sack the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Oppong Ababio, from office. Speaking to the media yesterday, Oboaman Dr Bofotia Boa-Amponsem II, Krontihene, who presided over the council in the case, said when the STC received a copy of the letter containing the allegations, it invited Mr Cubagee to ascertain the truth of the matter.

The Krontihene said Mr Cubagee turned down the invitation with the excuse that his personal security could not be guaranteed and therefore requested for police protection.

According to the Krontihene the council considered his request and provided him with police protection upon which he appeared before it on February 26. Oboaman Boa-Amponsem stated that Mr Cubagee was unable to substantiate his allegations after three hours of deliberations.

“Instead, he admitted telling a lie and pleaded for forgiveness,” Oboaman Boa-Amponsem said. According to the Krontihene, the STC took a serious view of the matter because the allegations could have led to trouble in the area as they imputed criminality against Nana Nkraniri.
“The Omanhene is the embodiment of the Sunyani State and therefore any misbehavior towards him will not be taken lightly by the STC,” he stated.

Asked about the traditional council’s next plan of action if Mr Cubagee failed to pay the fine, the Dwantoahene of Sunyani, Nana Takyi Abeam II, said “Mr Cubagee has no option but to pay the fine.”

Efforts to speak to Mr Cubagee according to Times, proved futile as his cell phones could not be reached.
