Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, at the weekend donated 100 bags of cement valued at GH˘1,300 to the Buokrom Community in Kumasi towards the construction of a Police Station.

These were bought from his share of the Common Fund.

The project was started two years ago and it has now reached the lintel level.

Dr Prempeh praised the foresight, initiative and commitment of the people to improve on their security and pledged his support.

He said he was into politics to help contribute to the progress of the constituency and nation.

Dr Prempeh noted that it was only when the people made the effort to change their situation for the better that they could expect assistance from the government.

Mr Francis Ampadu, Chairman of the Buokrom and Ahwia-Overseas Landlords Association, who received the cement, said the residents were financing the project through contributions.

He said they had so far spent over GH˘8,500 on the project.

Mr Ampadu, who is also the Assemblyman for Old Tafo Ahenbronum, said when completed, it would significantly reduce crime in the area.

He therefore appealed to the people to pay their development levy of GH˘20 for every household.

He said the community was grateful to Dr Prempeh for the gesture and promised they would use the cement for the intended purpose.
