Dr Archibald Letsa, Medical Director of the Miracle Life Hospital in Ho, has said lack of self-discipline was the major cause of spiraling cases of life-style diseases among Ghanaians.

He said the level of awareness of dietary tips for good health was high but people willfully disregarded them because of that lack of resolution.

Dr Letsa expressed the concern when he addressed members of the Ho branch of the Anyako-Konu Union at their once monthly meeting in Ho.

The Anyako-Konu Union encompasses citizens and spouses of citizens of the area which is located in the Keta Municipal Area. Dr Letsa said eating habits, exercise and stress levels were important factors impacting an individual’s health status as he or she aged.

He said breakfast was a crucial meal that must not be willfully avoided, cautioning that the habit of full meals late at night for supper only results in the buildup of fat in the body. He said it was not advisable to slump into bed within three hours of taking supper.

Dr Letsa said whereas many people knew excessive intake of sugar was bad, they would still scoop a little more into their preparations on the blind side of those holding them in check.

He noted that people procure gadgets for exercising but with time, only hanged clothing on them.
