The International Police Organisation (INTERPOL) estimates that up to 30% of all medicines in Africa are either counterfeit or of inferior quality.

The Global Pharma Health Fund, a charitable initiative funded by the German pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company Merck, provides help in this context.

It developed so-called “Minilabs” consisting of two large portable and tropic-resistant suitcases that contain the means to detect inferior or ineffective medicines.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by African Press Organisation (APO) copied to Ghana News Agency said Mr Alban Bagbin, the Minister of Health, would receive the 500th "Minilabs" from Gerald Asamoah, a Ghanaian footballer in Accra.

It will be witnessed by Mr Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports and Dr Karim Bendhaou, General Manager, Merck, North West Africa.
