The Society Lifeline Foundation (SLIF) in collaboration with the International Healthcare Volunteers (IHCV), a US-based organization, has donated medical and surgical equipment, medications and other medical suppliers to the La General Hospital in Accra.

SLIF, an organization committed to transforming the socio-economic life of the marginalized, poor and the underprivileged, presented the items on Friday with the support of the La Dadekotopon Member of Parliament, Nii Amasah Namoale.

SLIF’s President and Founder Ms Wendy Boamah said donations of such of nature bring to maturity the very purpose that led to the estblishment of the Foundation, which is to provide support to all so that the poor and underprivileged persons become happy and healthy.

Broadly, SLIF's assistance targets areas such as health, education, economic empowerment, and welfare, with the ultimate aim of ensuring and promoting effective community development.

“We acknowledge that poverty issues are complex and interrelated and we believe that access to these four fundamental categories is a basic human right and the combination of these programmes allows us to address the major poverty issues within the communities we serve,” said.

Last year, she said, through a similar partnership arrangement with IHCV, the Foundation organized a medical mission at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong-Akwapim in the Eastern Region.

Ms Boamah announced that in August this year, SLIF would undertake another medical mission at the La General Hospital, as part of many interventions the organization had been implementing towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals,, especially goals “4” (reducing child mortality) and “5” (reducing maternal mortality).

Making a brief statement on behalf of the La Dadekotopon MP, Ms Rita Odoley Sowah expressed appreciation to the SLIF and IHCV for the choice of the hospital and more especially donating medical items, which are critical to the delivery of quality health care.

In addition to thanking the SLIF for the donation, Dr Patrick Frimpong, Medical Director at the La General Hospital, lauded the immense support the MP of the area had rendered to the Hospital over the years.

“I am not saying this because Nii Amasah Namoale is the MP of the area, because he started supporting this hospital way back before he entered Parliament. He is very passionate when it comes to this hospital and his support in cash and kind had contributed greatly to the general improvement in conditions at the hospital.

“When the hospital was having problem with power supply we call on him and in no time he came and supplied us the huge generator we have today. That generator had very well improved conditions in this hospital and we will forever be grateful to him,” Dr Frimpong said.
