The Kwahu West Municipal Environmental Officer, Mr Mohammed Sulley has advised Ghanaians to keep their environment clean to help reduce the high rate of communicable diseases among the people.

He said most of the communicable diseases like typhoid fever and other water born diseases were cause by poor environmental sanitation and advised the public to regularly clean their environment.

Mr Sulley was addressing a cross-section of the people at Nkawkaw after a four-hour cleanup exercise at Nkawkaw and other communities in the Municipality as part of a national exercise to mark the country's 53rd independent anniversary celebration.

The people in the various communities desilted chocked gutters, swept the lorry parks, markets, streets and container sites, while the Municipal Assembly and Zoomlion provided tools, containers and a vehicle for the exercise.

Mr Sulley advised storekeepers and those who sold various food items in the night not to dump their refuse in the gutters, but put them in the refuse containers at vantage points for the Zoomlion staff to cart them away.

He advised the people to get involved in all cleanup exercises in the communities to enhance environmental hygiene, to help reduce the spread of communicable diseases in the Municipality.
