More than 80 percent of children of school going age at Tei Mensah, a farming community near Suhum, are loitering about in the area as a result of the absence of permanent classroom blocks.

Mr David Otu Ayertey, a member of the Unit Committee, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said eight years ago, the Ghana Education Service approved a primary school from class one to six for the community.

He said so far, only one good classroom block had been constructed by the community with the rest constructed with bamboo and roofed with palm branches.

Mr Ayertey said the continued use of that structure as classrooms put the lives of the children in danger as it could collapse at any time.

He said out of 120 children that were enrolled in the school, only 65 remained since most parents had withdrawn their children from the school to schools in nearby towns.
